Viral Bamboo Bridge in Tegal Alur: Governor Pram Promises Concrete Replacement

Residents of Tegal Alur, West Jakarta, pooled their own funds to build a bamboo bridge on Jalan Warung Pojok RT 05 RW 02, which has gone viral on social media. The bridge was constructed by the community after the original concrete bridge was dismantled in 2024.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has confirmed that the bridge will eventually be rebuilt using concrete. He explained that the original structure was removed by the Jakarta Water Resources Agency (Dinas Sumber Daya Air) to allow dredging work at the site.

“The wooden bridge in Tegal Alur was dismantled by the Water Resources Agency. Why was it dismantled? Because there was equipment at the location that needed to carry out dredging,” Pramono said in Pancoran, South Jakarta, on Friday (28/8/2026).

Pramono revealed that the Semongol bridge construction stalled because the equipment used for the work was vandalised and stolen. Several spare parts were reported missing, rendering the machinery inoperable.

“Sadly, the equipment was vandalised and stolen, with spare parts taken, so it could no longer operate,” he said.

Pramono said he has instructed the Water Resources Agency to continue the work. Once the water resource works are completed, the bridge will be rebuilt.

“I have asked the Water Resources Agency to carry on. Once the water resource works are finished, we will complete the wooden bridge as a concrete bridge,” he stated.

He noted that the current wooden bridge poses a potential safety risk to residents, which is why it will be made permanent using concrete.

“Because a wooden bridge is dangerous for the public,” he added.
