Viral Altercation Between Online Taxi Driver and Parking Attendant in Badung: The Cause Revealed
An altercation between an online taxi (ojol) driver and a parking attendant in front of an Alfamart minimarket in Munggu Village, Mengwi District, Badues, Bali, has gone viral on social media. The dispute was triggered by the driver’s refusal to pay a Rp 2,000 parking fee because no parking charge was listed in the application.
The online driver was reportedly picking up an online shopping order (GoMart) at the minimarket. Upon exiting the store, the parking attendant, identified by the initials IMDA, suddenly requested parking money. The driver refused as the parking fee was not included in the application details.
This refusal led to tension between the two parties. The parking attendant reportedly became emotional, feeling insulted by the driver’s words, and the dispute escalated into physical contact.
“The parking attendant became emotional because they were offended by the words of the online driver, who refused to pay on the grounds that there was no parking fee in the application. The parking attendant then snatched the driver’s mask and pulled the driver’s jacket,” explained the Sub-Head of Public Relations for Badung Police, Aiptu Ni Nyoman Ayu Inastuti, on Wednesday (2/9/2026).
A witness at the location, a minimarket employee, confirmed the physical actions involving the pulling of clothing and the snatching of the mask. After being treated aggressively, the online driver returned to the store and recorded a video of the incident, which eventually went viral.
The driver expressed his frustration to the parking attendant, questioning the basis for the parking fee and highlighting the official transaction system used in the GoMart application.
“I am with Gojek, GoMart; there is no parking charge in the application. If there were an official parking charge detail in the app, I would gladly pay—even five times the amount,” said the man, whose identity remains unknown.
According to the driver, the primary issue was not the Rp 2,000 amount. He questioned the lack of official regulations and alleged ongoing intimidation by certain parking attendants against online drivers.
He also mentioned reports from the minimarket staff regarding a decline in turnover, suggesting that intimidation by certain parking attendants may be making customers feel uncomfortable and reluctant to shop.
Police subsequently arrived at the scene of the dispute between the parking attendant and the online driver. Officers conducted a clarification of the incident and took statements from witnesses and the parking attendant on site.
“Officers have visited the crime scene and requested statements from witnesses and the parking attendant at the location. We have directed that this matter be resolved through mediation as soon as possible,” said Ayu Inastuti.
Police stated that the issue began as a misunderstanding over parking payment which then escalated into physical contact. The situation at the location is now reported to be stable.
“The results of the analysis show that the problem purely began from a misunderstanding regarding parking payment, which then developed into physical contact. Currently, the situation at the location is conducive, and the parties involved have been asked to resolve the dispute peacefully,” said Ayu Inastuti.
