Viral Albino White Buffalo nicknamed 'Donald Trump' Set for Eid al-Adha Sacrifice
Ahead of the Eid al-Adha celebrations, a unique phenomenon has captured the attention of people in Bangladesh. A white albino buffalo with a flowing blond mane has become a social media star, nicknamed ‘Donald Trump’ by its owner because of the similarity of its hair to the former U.S. president.
This 700-kilogram buffalo is on a farm in Narayanganj, on the outskirts of the capital Dhaka. Its owner, Zia Uddin Mridha, 38, revealed that the name was given by his younger brother who was astonished by the buffalo’s extraordinary mane.
‘My younger brother chose this name because of the buffalo’s remarkable hair,’ Mridha told AFP on Thursday (21 May). He added that throughout May, his farm has been visited by crowds, from social media fans to curious children wanting to see the internet sensation in person.
Despite its fame, this animal version of Donald Trump leads a relatively simple yet disciplined daily life. The buffalo is washed four times a day to maintain cleanliness and the comfort of its albino skin. Farm staff appear to comb its blonde hair with a pink brush between its large curved horns.
Officials from the local Department of Agriculture explained that albino buffalo like this are very rare. The white or pink skin colour on such animals is caused by a lack of melanin production.

The buffalo’s popularity has taken a toll on its health. Mridha said that crowds became too large, causing the buffalo stress and a drop in weight. This forced the owner to limit public access.
Nevertheless, the restrictions did not dampen the public’s intention. Faisal Ahmed, 30, a local entrepreneur, was willing to come with relatives to see the resemblance. ‘It really is so similar; the features are alike between this buffalo and President Donald Trump,’ he said. His nephew even took a one-hour boat ride just to see the animal.
Although he has cared for the four-year-old buffalo with affection over the past year, Mridha realises their time together will soon end. ‘I will miss Donald Trump, but that is the essence of Eid al-Adha, making a sacrifice,’ he said.
Farmers and traders still have opportunities to boost sales ahead of the peak of Eid al-Adha.
