Viral Abuse of Indonesian Worker in Malaysia: House Commission IX Demands Immediate Repatriation
House of Representatives Commission IX is urging the government to ensure that an Indonesian citizen (WNI) who was abused by her employer in Malaysia can return home safely. “We hope the government can provide optimal protection to the victim. Not only provide protection, but also ensure that the person concerned returns home safely,” said Deputy Chairman of Commission IX Charles Honoris to reporters at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Monday, 15 June 2026. Charles said he had communicated with the Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) and received information that the suspected perpetrators of the abuse had been arrested by local police. He then requested maximum protection for the victims. “We are waiting for good news soon so that the person concerned can be repatriated to Indonesia,” he said. Previously, the Johor Bahru Police in Malaysia arrested four Malaysian nationals suspected of assaulting an Indonesian domestic worker. The arrests followed the circulation of a viral video on social media, which showed four people interrogating and beating an Indonesian woman working as a domestic helper. Johor Police stated in a press conference in Malaysia on Sunday (14/6) that they were examining four suspected assailants, who are a married couple. According to Johor Police, the incident occurred in July 2025, but the video only recently spread and went viral. The police stated they are still investigating the motive for the assault and indicated there are allegations of similar violence possibly experienced by two other domestic helpers, also from Indonesia. Meanwhile, the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Johor Bahru stated it is providing protection and assistance to the Indonesian domestic worker. In an official statement received by ANTARA in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday (14/6), KJRI Johor Bahru stated there are three Indonesian victims, with the initials YY, SH, and YA. Two of the Indonesian nationals, with the initials YY and SH, have been picked up by KJRI Johor Bahru and are currently at the KJRI Johor Bahru Temporary Shelter to receive further protection and assistance.
