Viral Abuse of Indonesian Domestic Worker in Malaysia Leads to Four Arrests

A female Indonesian migrant worker, identified by her initials YY, was abused by her employer in Malaysia. Malaysian police have arrested four individuals involved in the assault. In a video circulating online, a woman is seen seated on a sofa being beaten by a man in a blue shirt. The victim groans in pain and does not fight back. In a subsequent scene, another woman strikes the victim on the head, while yet another woman records the violent act. The victim was also subjected to hair-pulling, with the perpetrators repeatedly targeting her head. Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens and Legal Entities (PWNI) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heni Hamidah, confirmed that the victim is an Indonesian citizen working in Malaysia. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Johor Bahru, and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuala Lumpur are currently providing assistance to an Indonesian citizen with the initials YY, who reported an alleged assault by her employer and an associate in Malaysia,” Heni Hamidah told reporters. The report was received by the Johor Bahru consulate via the Ksatria application on 13 June 2026. The consulate immediately coordinated with local police to ensure the case was promptly followed up. “On the evening of 13 June, local police reportedly detained four suspects allegedly involved in the incident, comprising two women and two men. All four have undergone initial examination, and the investigation process will continue,” Heni stated. The Johor Bahru consulate also picked up two other victims in Johor Bahru on 14 June and is coordinating with the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur regarding the whereabouts of another victim in the capital. The victim in Kuala Lumpur is scheduled to be escorted to Johor Bahru on 15 June to provide statements to local police. “The relevant Indonesian representatives will facilitate the legal process and ensure legal protection for the victims through assistance from a retainer lawyer. The Johor Bahru consulate will ensure the victims’ rights are fulfilled throughout the legal proceedings,” she added. Heni said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Johor Bahru consulate, and the Kuala Lumpur embassy will continue to monitor the case and coordinate with local authorities to ensure consular assistance is provided in accordance with applicable regulations.
