Viral: 70-Year-Old Man in PIK Fights Off Would-Be Kidnappers in Car
A 70-year-old man, identified by the initials GH, narrowly avoided being kidnapped whilst out for a morning walk in the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area of Penjaringan, North Jakarta. The incident, which occurred around 6.55 a.m. in May 2026, is now under police investigation.
According to AKP Sampson Sosa Hutapea, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at the Penjaringan Metropolitan Police, the victim successfully fought back, thwarting the attacker’s attempt to force him into a vehicle. The struggle was captured on nearby CCTV cameras.
Initial investigations and the obtained CCTV footage show a car following the victim as he walked for exercise near his home. Shortly afterwards, a man exited the vehicle and approached GH, attempting to pull him into the car. The victim resisted, and the pair were seen grappling and falling onto the road during the scuffle. Despite his advanced age, GH continued to fight and scream for help, which apparently panicked the assailant, who then fled the scene without the victim.
GH, a private sector employee, told police he has never had any personal disputes and did not recognise the man who tried to abduct him. Police are now hunting for the suspects, believed to number more than two individuals. The investigation is employing scientific crime investigation methods, focusing on analysing CCTV and other recordings to map the vehicle’s movements and identify the perpetrators. Authorities are still working to establish the motive behind the attempted kidnapping.
