VinFast To Sell Electric Scooters in Indonesia, Opens 30 Stores With Four Models
Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast is preparing to expand its business in Indonesia by entering the electric two-wheeler market. Following its earlier introduction of electric cars, the company is targeting the launch of its electric scooter line in Indonesia in Q2 2026.
The initial phase of this expansion is marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between VinFast and six local electric motorcycle dealer networks in Indonesia. The six partners are PT IB Motor, PT Sentrik, PT Axara Marani, PT Sukses Sejati Indonesia, PT Tangguh Inti Motor, and PT Kiki Motor Persada.
This cooperation is part of the company’s strategy to build distribution networks and after-sales service before sales commence. The dealers will open showrooms in several regions considered to have high potential for electric vehicle adoption, such as the Greater Jakarta area, West Java, East Java, and Bali. In the initial phase, this distribution network is estimated to encompass approximately 30 stores targeting operation commencement this year.
VinFast Indonesia’s Director of e-Scooter Sales & Distribution Network Expansion, Yordan Satriadi, stated that the company is preparing several electric scooter models for the domestic market. “The models we have currently prepared are four: Flash, Viper, Evo, and Velis. These four models will be launched in the first phase. Of course, in the future there will be additional models tailored to Indonesian consumer needs,” he said in a statement on Monday, 9 March 2026.
Additionally, VinFast has introduced several models prepared for the Indonesian market, including the VinFast Flazz, VinFast Evo, VinFast Feliz II, and VinFast Viper. These models employ battery-swapping technology, allowing users to replace batteries at swap stations without waiting for charging.
Various models feature different characteristics targeting diverse user segments. The Flazz is positioned as an entry-level electric scooter with a maximum speed of approximately 39 km per hour and a range of up to 135 km.
The Evo comes in two variants, the Evo Grand and Evo Neo, featuring a classic Italian scooter-style design with performance reaching speeds of up to 70 km per hour and a claimed maximum range of 262 km on certain variants.
The Feliz II features a retro-modern design with peak speed performance of approximately 70 km per hour and a range of up to 156 km. The Viper model is positioned as a scooter with a more aggressive design aimed at users desiring a sporty appearance.
For the initial market penetration phase, VinFast’s electric motorcycles marketed in Indonesia will still have the status of completely built-up imports (CBU). However, the company has prepared long-term plans for local assembly, targeting commencement in 2027.
VinFast management emphasised that the current primary focus is not merely pursuing sales volume, but rather building a comprehensive electric vehicle ecosystem. The company is preparing various supporting infrastructure, including a battery-swap station network being developed together with global energy infrastructure company V-Green. This network is currently in the testing phase in the Greater Jakarta area.
VinFast E-Scooters Overseas Market Managing Director Võ Thị Cẩm Tú stated that expanding the dealer network is an important part of the company’s long-term strategy in Indonesia. “The expansion of cooperation with dealers in Indonesia reflects VinFast’s commitment to rapidly building a strong distribution and service network in this market. We are not merely presenting high-quality products, but also building a comprehensive ecosystem, ranging from sales, after-sales service, to charging and battery-swap infrastructure. This step forms the foundation for sustained growth with our local partners,” she said.
Indonesia is regarded as a strategic market as it is one of the world’s largest motorcycle markets with annual sales reaching millions of units. With electric motorcycle penetration still relatively low but driven by energy transition policies, VinFast sees significant growth opportunity for electric two-wheelers in the domestic market.
