Villages to have midwives

AMBON, Maluku: By 1997, each of the 1,516 villages here will
have at least one midwife, a health official says.

At present, only 430 villages have midwives posted in local
health clinics, Antara quoted Dr. Izac Umarela, head of the
provincial office of the Ministry of Health, as saying yesterday.

Next year, the health authorities will deploy 525 new midwives
in the villages, he said. (swe)
