Villagers fear landslides

CILACAP, Central Java (JP): One hundred and twenty families were evacuated to safe ground on Monday following the discovery of cracks in the ground in Panulisan Timur village, Dayeuh Luhur district.

The cracks appeared after heavy rain and it was feared that they would lead to landslides. Social welfare department head Raskat and administration spokesman Suprihono, who both visited the site, said thousands in the regency were threatened by landslides.

Suprihono said 149 families evacuated recently from Dayeuh Luhur district had yet to return to their homes. Landslides and floods have also affected Patimuan, Wanareja and Kawunanten districts. (45)
