Village infrastructure opens economic access and reduces production costs

According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) as of March 2025, the poverty rate in villages stands at 11.03%, which is nearly double the urban poverty rate of 6.73%. This disparity highlights significant gaps, particularly in infrastructure development. Consequently, the Ministry of Public Works has rolled out the Socio-Economic Regional Infrastructure Development programme, or PISEW. Utilising a labour-intensive development model, PISEW directly involves village communities in the process, ranging from the initial planning stages to the physical construction.
