Village Head Syerly Sanctioned Following Viral Mockery of Resident's Complaint

The Medan City Inspectorate has investigated the Paya Pasir Village Head, Syerly, who went viral for mocking a resident complaining about public street lighting (LPJU). Syerly has been found guilty and sanctioned accordingly.

“Yes, (Syerly has been proven to have violated the code of ethics),” stated the Medan City Inspector, Erfin Fahrur $ ext{urrazi}$, as reported on Saturday (1/8/2026). Erfin noted that Syerly violated the code of ethics referring to Article 7, paragraph (1), point d of the Medan Mayor’s Regulation Number 58 of 2023. Consequently, the Inspectorate has provided a recommendation to Syerly’s superior, the Medan Marelan Sub-district Head, to impose sanctions.

“The recommended disciplinary action falls under the category of light disciplinary punishment. The recommendation for light disciplinary sanctions has been submitted to the Medan Marelan Sub-district Head,” he added.

Syerly’s action of mocking a resident complaining about street lighting went viral on social media. In the video, a resident can be heard expressing their concerns to the Mayor of Medan, Rico Waas, regarding security on Jalan Paya Pasir. The resident mentioned having used personal funds to purchase and install street lights.

“Sir, please allow me to install lights, Sir. It is very dark, Sir. There are many robbers here. I have installed four (lamp) poles myself using my own money,” the resident said in the circulating video.

Village Head Syerly’s response drew significant attention from netizens as she was seen mocking the resident during their complaint. “Cie, curhat dia (Ooh, look at them venting),” Syerly remarked in the video, while standing directly beside Rico Waas.
