Village Head Syerly Faces Disciplinary Action After Viral 'Cie Curhat' Remark

The Head of Paya Pasir Village, Syerly, has been found guilty and handed a disciplinary sanction by the Medan City Inspectorate following an investigation into her viral mockery of a resident complaining about public street lighting (LPJU). “Yes, [Syerly has been proven to violate the code of ethics],” stated the Medan City Inspector, Erfin Fahrurrazi. Erfin noted that Syerly violated the code of ethics as referenced in Article 7, paragraph (1), point d of Medan Mayor Regulation Number 58 of 2023. Consequently, the Inspectorate has provided recommendations to Syerly’s superior, the Head of the Medan Marelan District, to impose the sanction. “The recommended disciplinary action falls under the category of light disciplinary punishment. This recommendation has been passed to the Head of the Medan Marelan District,” Erfin added. Syerly’s actions went viral on social media when she appeared to mock a resident who was expressing concerns regarding street lighting to the Mayor of Medan, Rico Waas, regarding safety on Jalan Paya Pasir. In the video, the resident mentioned having used personal funds to purchase and install street lights. “Sir, please permit me to install lights. It is very dark here, Sir. There are many robbers here. I have installed four poles myself using my own money,” the resident said in the viral video. Syerly’s response drew significant attention from netizens as she was seen mocking the resident’s grievance, saying, “Cie, curhat dia” (Oh, look at them venting).
