Parigi Moutong Regency continues to strengthen its commitment to building a people’s economy through empowering micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM). The commitment is demonstrated through a socialisation activity titled ‘Enhancing Understanding, Knowledge of UMKM, and Entrepreneurship’ for entrepreneurs at the Kotaraya Village Office on Friday, 22 May. The event, which began at 14:00 WITA, forms part of the Regency Government’s Village Gate strategy, designed to bring services, coaching, and assistance to villages. Regent Erwin Burase emphasised that the activity is not merely ceremonial but a real step in building villages that are independent and competitive through strengthening the people’s economy.

“Through the Village Gate-based approach, the government seeks to deliver services, coaching, and mentoring that are closer to the community. This programme is not simply a socialisation activity, but part of an effort to build independent, productive, and competitive villages by strengthening the people’s economy,” said Erwin.

He noted that amid technological development and changing market dynamics, strengthening UMKM capacity is a key factor in creating sustainable economic growth, particularly in rural areas with high local potential.

Through the socialisation, entrepreneurs received training on several important topics, including business governance management, healthy and accountable financial management, product and marketing innovation strategies, utilisation of digital technology to expand markets, and strengthening entrepreneurial mindset and motivation.

Regent Erwin Burase also urged all village officials to actively support UMKM development in their areas. He stated that villages must be able to transform into centres of new economic growth based on local potential.

“Villages must be able to become centres of new economic growth that can unlock local potential into the economic strength of the community.”

Through synergy between local government, village governments, and entrepreneurs, this activity is expected to produce UMKM not only to survive but to grow into resilient, innovative, adaptive, and capable of competing in broader markets. (E-2)
