Village Electricity Programme Seen as Strengthening National Development Equity

A member of Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Dewi Yustisiana, has expressed appreciation for President Prabowo Subianto’s commitment, implemented by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), to accelerate the village electricity programme. The plan to inaugurate electricity connections in more than 1,400 villages before 14 August 2026 is a strategic step to expand energy access while strengthening equitable development and economic growth across various regions of Indonesia. According to Dewi, the provision of electricity access is not only oriented towards increasing the electrification ratio but also serves as an important instrument to boost community productivity, strengthen public services, and open up new economic opportunities in the regions. The availability of reliable energy will drive the development of MSMEs, the agricultural sector, fisheries, education, health services, and the digital economy in villages. “We appreciate President Prabowo’s commitment, implemented by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, in accelerating the Village Electricity Programme. This policy shows that energy sector development is directed not only at expanding infrastructure but also at creating economic added value, improving the quality of public services, and strengthening national development equity,” Dewi said in a written statement on Wednesday, 29 July 2026. Dewi noted that the fact there are still around 11,000 villages without access to electricity is a challenge that needs to be resolved gradually through integrated planning, sustainable funding support, and synergy between the central government, regional governments, state electricity company PT PLN (Persero), and all stakeholders. She added that the expansion of electrification must also be accompanied by improvements in the reliability of the electricity system so that the public receives quality and sustainable services. As a working partner of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Commission XII of the DPR RI will continue to carry out its oversight function to ensure the Village Electricity Programme is implemented effectively, accountably, and on target. She expressed hope that the acceleration of village electrification would become a foundation for realising inclusive and equitable energy resilience, so that the benefits of development can be felt evenly by all Indonesian people and support the vision of a more advanced and competitive Indonesia.
