Village Electricity Programme Seen as Strengthening National Development Equity
Jakarta, VIVA – Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives Commission XII, Dewi Yustisiana, has praised the commitment of President Prabowo Subianto, implemented by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), to accelerate the village electrification programme.
The plan to officially inaugurate more than 1,400 electrified villages before 14 August 2026 is a strategic step to expand energy access while strengthening equitable development and economic growth across various regions of Indonesia.
According to Dewi, the provision of electricity access is not only aimed at increasing the electrification ratio, but also serves as an important instrument to boost community productivity, strengthen public services, and open up new economic opportunities in the regions.
Reliable energy availability will drive the development of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the agricultural and fisheries sectors, education, healthcare services, and the digital economy in villages.
“We applaud President Prabowo’s commitment, implemented by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, in accelerating the Village Electrification Programme. This policy shows that energy sector development is directed not only at expanding infrastructure, but also at creating economic added value, improving the quality of public services, and strengthening equitable national development,” Dewi said in a written statement on Wednesday, 29 July 2026.
Dewi noted that around 11,000 villages still without electricity access remain a challenge that must be resolved gradually through integrated planning, sustainable funding support, and synergy between the central government, regional governments, PT PLN (Persero), and all stakeholders.
According to her, the expansion of electrification must also be accompanied by improvements in the reliability of the electricity system so that communities receive quality and sustainable services.
As a working partner of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Commission XII of the House of Representatives will continue to carry out its oversight function to ensure the Village Electrification Programme is implemented effectively, accountably, and on target.
She hopes that the acceleration of village electrification will become a foundation for realising inclusive and fair energy resilience, so that the benefits of development can be felt equally by all Indonesians and support the vision of a more advanced and competitive Indonesia.
