The North Maluku provincial government is encouraging collaborative village development to improve community welfare. Synergy among government, private sector, and society is deemed capable of delivering direct impacts in the region.

Deputy Governor of North Maluku, Sarbin Sehe, stated that cross-sector collaboration is key to ensuring that investments not only grow but are also felt by the community. This approach is directed towards strengthening village-based development.

“Collaboration between local government and the private sector is key to ensuring that growing investments bring direct benefits to community welfare,” said Sarbin in a press release on Thursday (23/4/2026).

This effort has received recognition from the central government through an award at the 2026 CSR and Sustainable Village Development Awards. The award was given for utilising CSR programmes to support village development.

Sarbin views this achievement as the result of cooperation among various parties. CSR programmes are hoped to continue and provide broader benefits.

“We hope that the CSR programmes implemented can continue sustainably and provide real benefits to the community, not only in Obi but also more broadly across North Maluku,” said Sarbin.

Minister of Villages and Underdeveloped Regions, Yandri Susanto, appreciated the role of the business world in supporting village development. Private sector involvement is considered important for expanding development impacts.

Executive Vice President of External Relations at Harita Nickel, Latif Supriadi, stated that collaboration is the main foundation in the sustainability of village programmes. The company is committed to supporting development in its operational areas.

“We welcome the appreciation received by the North Maluku Provincial Government. This award reaffirms that multi-stakeholder collaboration is an important foundation for the sustainability of village development programmes. Harita Nickel is committed to continuing to support development priorities in North Maluku, especially in our operational areas on Obi Island,” said Latif.

One implementation of this collaboration is seen in the Obi Sehati programme, which focuses on horticulture development. The programme includes enhancing farmers’ capacities and providing ongoing assistance.

Through an integrated approach, farmers are encouraged to increase productivity and competitiveness. The programme also strengthens village-based economic resilience.

Looking ahead, the local government targets expanding this synergy. Collaborative village development is expected to provide sustainable benefits for the people of North Maluku.
