Village chief busted for cheating

JAKARTA (JP): A village chief in Pamulang, West Java, has been arrested by South Jakarta police for allegedly cheating pop singer Iis Dahlia.

The Duren Mekar village chief, identified as TB Asep Saefudin, was shot in the right leg after resisting arrest and attempting to flee officers who arrived at his rented house to take him in for questioning on Sunday night.

Pamulang, located south of Jakarta, is under the jurisdiction of the South Jakarta Police.

City Police spokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang said yesterday that Iis Dahlia had reported the case in May.

Dahlia accused Asep of selling her car without consent.

"The suspect never even visited her again. He went away with the money he collected from selling the car," Aritonang said.

Asep tried to run away and ignored police warning shots on Sunday morning when the police raided his house in Pamulang, said the officer.

If found guilty, he could face a maximum four years' imprisonment as stated in Article 378 of the Criminal Code on deception. (cst)
