Around 2,500 devotees and visitors attended the Vesak 2570 BE celebration at Vihara Buddha Sakyamuni in Denpasar on Sunday (31 May). The event, themed “Treading the Noble Path, Contributing to the Nation”, served not only as a religious ritual but also as a learning space for compassion, virtue, and togetherness for the wider community.

Denpasar City Secretary I Gusti Ngurah Eddy Mulya, reading the mayor’s speech, stated that the sacred celebration is an opportunity to strengthen love, wisdom, tolerance, and harmonious living amid the city’s diverse society, particularly in Denpasar with the spirit of “Vasudhaiva Khutumbakam”.

“Let us maintain peace and harmony through noble values to strengthen unity and togetherness in our beloved Denpasar,” said Eddy Mulya.

Chairman of the Vihara Buddha Sakyamuni Foundation, Reverend Oscar Naib Wanouw, said the celebration is a sacred moment for Buddhists to commemorate the three major events in Gautama Buddha’s life: birth, enlightenment, and Parinirvana.

He added that this year’s Vesak theme encourages Buddhists not only to deepen spiritual practice but also to make tangible contributions to community life.

“The theme urges followers to implement dhamma values in daily life to generate positive impacts on the environment, nation, and fellow citizens,” he said.
