Vietnam's coal production

HANOI (AFP): Vietnamese Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet has approved a general development plan for the coal industry through 2010, with a production target of 6.3 million tons of clean coal in 1995, the daily Vietnam News said.

This development plan also forecasts production of 8.5 million tons of coal annually from 2000 to 2010, it added.

Last month, Kiet approved the establishment of the Vietnam Coal Corp., aimed at upgrading the country's backward coal industry which is currently facing difficulties.

The industry is expected to receive on average 600 billion dong (US$55 million) of capital investment each year until 2000.

Investment money will come from budget funds, state credits, foreign loans and international aid, the newspaper said.
