HANOI (AP): Vietnamese fishermen have rescued 21 Indonesian sailors who clung to their life preservers for 36 hours after high waves sank their ship, an official said on Friday.
One sailor remained missing, said Nguyen Xuan Thu, director of the Nha Trang Port Authority.
The ship, the Gosella, loaded with 3,400 cubic meters (120,000 cubic feet) of timber, sank on June 20 near the Spratly Islands, Thu said. The sailors were rescued on June 22.
The ship had left four days earlier from Indonesia's Kalimantan for Quy Nhon in central Vietnam. The rescued sailors were taken to the coastal city of Nha Trang on Tuesday and are waiting repatriation, Thu said.
