Vietnamese minister visits Laos

HANOI (DPA): Vietnamese Defense Minister Gen. Doan Khue is
currently on a five-day "official friendship" visit to
neighboring Laos, as part of a stepped-up number of military
exchanges involving the military, the official Vietnam News
reported yesterday.

Khue, who left the capital Tuesday, was invited by counterpart
Senior Lt. Gen. Choummaly Sayasone.

The commander of Vietnam's People's Navy, Vice-Admiral Mai
Xuan Vinh, returned this past weekend from a four-day visit to
the Philippines.

He was there at the invitation of "opposite number", Rear
Admiral Eduardo M. Santos, the paper said. The naval chief met
the Philippines' armed forces chief of staff and the secretary of
the national defense department, in addition to visiting several
naval facilities, it added.
