Vietnamese fishermen arrested

BANDAR LAMPUNG: Eleven Vietnamese fishermen were arrested in Lampung on Saturday for poaching on Indonesian waters.

Lampung marine police chief Adj. Comr. Putut Prayodi said the fishermen were found fishing some nine miles from the coastline of Tulang Bawang district in Lampung.

None of them were speaking either English or Mandarin, making it difficult for the authorities to communicate with the sailors.

According to Putut, authorities found around one tons of fish in their 21-meter boat.

During the arrest, the fishermen tried to bribe the police with US$450, but the officers refused. -- Antara
