Vietnam targets 10 million workers with basic AI skills by 2030

Vietnam is targeting to train or update basic artificial intelligence (AI) skills for at least 10 million workers by 2030 under a national AI human resource development programme, local daily Nhan Dan reported on Wednesday. The programme, approved by Deputy Prime Minister Le Tien Chau on Tuesday, aims to develop a workforce to meet the needs of strategic technology sectors and strengthen national technological self-reliance. It targets the training and upskilling of 10,000 highly qualified and specialised AI professionals, including at least 1,500 experts capable of researching and mastering core technologies and leading key tasks in the AI field. To achieve these targets, the programme sets out several task groups focusing on institutional improvement, AI expert development, expansion of AI education and retraining, alignment of training with businesses and the labour market, and development of infrastructure, data and practical training environments. By 2035, Vietnam aims to be among the leading countries in the region in AI human resource capacity, the report stated.
