Vietnam, S'pore to boost military ties
VIETNAM: Vietnam and Singapore have pledged to boost ties between
their armed forces during talks between defense chiefs in Hanoi,
state media said on Tuesday.
Lt. Gen. Lim Chuan Poh, Singapore's Chief of Defense Force,
arrived in the Vietnamese capital on Monday for a four-day visit.
At a meeting with Deputy Defense Minister Lt. Gen. Phung Quang
Thanh, who is also chief commander of the Vietnam People's Army,
they agreed to "promote understanding and friendship between two
armies".
They also swapped information on their national defense and
security policies, the Quan Doi Nhan Dan (People's Army) said.
Later on Monday, Lim met with Defense Minister Pham Van Tra,
who said the visit would help ensure peace and cooperation in the
region.
The Singaporean defense chief, on his first visit to Vietnam,
is due to fly to the southern commercial capital of Ho Chi Minh
City on Wednesday before returning home the following day. -- AFP
