Hanoi (ANTARA) - The Vietnamese government has released plans to connect VNeID, the national electronic identification application, with electronic identification systems in Singapore and Laos, before gradually expanding these connections to other member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), a government portal reported on Tuesday (22/9).

The plan aims to simplify immigration procedures and shorten processing, verification, and inspection times at border crossings, while simultaneously increasing people-to-people exchanges and encouraging regional trade and investment, the report stated.

Under the plan, Vietnam will conduct trials for the connection, authentication, and exchange of electronic identification information with Singapore and Laos at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, the Vietnamese capital, and Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, a major hub in southern Vietnam.

The pilot programme is set to commence in 202<0xA0>26 and continue in subsequent years. Authorities will evaluate processing times, authentication success rates, error rates, and user feedback before considering expansion to other border crossings and ASEAN member states.
