Vietnam’s government has officially formed a dedicated Task Force (Satgas) to safeguard national energy security amid the intensifying military conflict in the Middle East. The move was taken as a swift response to dynamic global developments that are increasingly uncertain and could disrupt the world’s energy supply chain.

According to a report on the government portal on Thursday (5 March), the formation of the Task Force was established by a government decision signed on Wednesday (4 March). The Task Force’s main mandate is to assist the Prime Minister in directing and coordinating the relevant ministries and agencies to mitigate energy security issues.

The Task Force’s core duties include close monitoring, assessment, and forecasting of developments in the global energy market. In addition, the team will be responsible for ensuring adequate fuel supplies for industrial production and consumer demand across Vietnam.

‘The Task Force will propose policy measures and strategic solutions to the Prime Minister to address sudden energy security challenges,’ the report stated.

This preventive step by Vietnam reflects the concerns of Southeast Asian countries about dependence on energy from the Middle East. The ad hoc team is temporary and will be disbanded as soon as the mission to secure energy stability is concluded and global circumstances ease.
