HANOI (AFP): Vietnam Television (VTV) has begun satellite broadcasts across Asia, while the network's international radio station has expanded its coverage to North America via a transmitter in Russia, a report said yesterday.

VTV is to broadcast a program of news and music in Vietnamese and English over the Thaicom-1 satellite that covers Southeast Asia. The program will also be available in Russia over the Intersputnik network, the Vietnam News reported.

The one-hour program will be broadcast from 9:45 p.m. (14:45 GMT) every day and will be available in Southeast Asia, southern China, across the Korean peninsula, parts of Russia and in Japan, the report said.

Voice of Vietnam will also expand its services, broadcasting English-language news to North America from a transmitter in Russia, the official newspaper said.
