Video: With Rice Self-Sufficiency Achieved, Amran Sulaiman Guarantees Farmer Welfare

The Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, Andi Amras Sulaiman, has ensured the government’s ongoing efforts to maintain rice self-sufficiency to meet the needs of the Indonesian people. As of April 2026, the Government Rice Reserve (CBP) is expected to reach 5 million tonnes, marking the highest rice stock achievement in Indonesia’s history.

Regarding the rise in rice prices in several regions, the Minister stated that this is related to market mechanisms following the increase in unhusked rice (gabah) prices at the farmer level, which serves to enhance farmer prosperity.

On the other hand, the government is encouraging increased production in the food sector to support energy self-sufficiency through bioethanol production. The Minister also ensured efforts to keep Fresh Fruit Bunch (TBS) palm oil prices stable at the farmer level, so that the drive for bioethanol production and the implementation of one-door export regulations through the special State-Owned Enterprise, PT DSI, will not have a negative impact on palm oil farmers.

The Minister of Agriculture has reported between 274 and 300 palm oil companies that are manipulating TBS prices. It is hoped that the formation of PT DSI can prevent practices such as under-invoicing and transfer pricing.
