Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The energy transition towards new renewable sources and efforts to reduce carbon emissions are driving global interest in the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), including in Indonesia.

Antonio Zara, CEO of Vinfast Southeast Asia, said public demand for electric vehicles is inseparable from the support of the EV ecosystem, including the availability of home charging equipment and easy access to public EV charging stations (SPKLU).

In addition, the availability of EVs on the market is an important factor that can encourage adoption, while access to and warranties for EV batteries are also considerations for people buying electric vehicles.

Meanwhile, automotive observer Bebin Djuana said automotive customers in Indonesia scrutinise the issue of EV batteries before purchasing, relating to price, technology, lifespan and battery warranties.

Bebin sees strong public interest in electric vehicles, supported by tax stimuli and incentives, along with EV manufacturers’ marketing strategies, as capable of driving EV adoption in Indonesia.

To find out more about the prospects and challenges of driving EV adoption in Indonesia, watch Bunga Cinka’s dialogue with Antonio Zara, CEO of Vinfast Southeast Asia, and automotive observer Bebin Djuana on AutoBizz, CNBC Indonesia (Friday, 31/07/2026).
