Video: Village Cooperative Target: Village Economic Movement – Creating Employment Opportunities
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Deputy Minister for Villages and Disadvantaged Regions, Ahmad Riza Patria, has assured that there are no plans to close modern retail outlets in villages. However, with the development of Red and White Village/Community Cooperatives (KDMP), it is hoped that no additional new retail establishments will be introduced.
The Deputy Minister stated that the government continues to promote village economies by targeting rural populations to become actors and drivers of village enterprises, rather than merely serving as consumers, through activities conducted via Village Cooperatives KDMP, Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes), and Village MSMEs.
The KDMP initiative is expected to enhance productivity, create employment opportunities, stimulate economic growth, and improve the welfare of rural communities. Beyond retail services, KDMP will be equipped with healthcare services and savings and loan cooperative facilities to address problems of loan sharks and predatory lending.
Currently, the development of 30,000 village cooperatives is in progress out of a national target of 81,000 across Indonesia. The construction has been prepared and equipped with human resources and digitalisation using a concept that meets basic community needs, supports local-based economies, and absorbs local products, thus differing in concept from modern retail outlets.
The full discussion on the development targets of Red and White Village Cooperatives for village economies, featuring Deputy Minister Ahmad Riza Patria in conversation with Bunga Cinka on CNBC Indonesia’s Nation Hub, aired on Thursday, 26 February 2026.
