At Jogja Financial Festival 2026, Bernardus Irmanto, President Director and Chief Executive Officer of PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (INCO), outlined how his journey and struggles have driven him to seek knowledge and play a role in developing Indonesia’s nickel industry.

As head of a leading nickel company, Irmanto explained how the nickel mining industry and Vale Indonesia are taking steps to drive the economic transition while supporting Indonesia’s economic growth.

Mining is one of the backbone of civilisation, where mined minerals are intended to aid the economy, and Indonesia is blessed with abundant natural wealth, thus there is a need to add value to minerals through downstream processing (hilirisasi) to ensure sustainability and support Indonesia’s energy transition amid negative issues surrounding the mining sector.
