Jakarta — CNBC Indonesia held the CNBC Indonesia Awards 2026: Best Consumer to recognise businesses and industries in the consumer sector that have recorded positive performance and contributed to advancing Indonesia’s economy.

Indonesia’s Trade Minister, Budi Santoso, outlined three main programmes to boost the country’s trade performance in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita: safeguarding the domestic market, expanding export markets and taking local products global.

Efforts to safeguard the large domestic market aim to make it a space for domestic industries to grow while also enabling them to tap global market opportunities. Export-market expansion is being pursued by strengthening trade cooperation with partner countries. Indonesia has concluded 25 trade agreements, with a further 13 currently under negotiation.

Under the “Local to Global” programme, the Trade Ministry is strengthening facilities to help local micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) enter export markets, drawing on Indonesian Trade Promotion Centres (ITPCs) and overseas trade attachés in 33 countries. The ministry said 44 ITPCs help connect businesses with prospective overseas buyers, with support also available through bank financing, state-owned enterprise facilities and trade associations.

The ministry said the “Local to Global”, or “MSMEs Can Export”, programme recorded transactions worth US$134 million in 2025. From January to September 2026, the figure reached US$360 million. The ministry is also supporting 2,600 villages in their efforts to access export markets and running the Campuspreneur programme, which trains students and universities to become exporters at 25 higher education institutions.

Indonesia’s globally competitive products include textiles and footwear, mineral products, and agricultural and plantation goods. Potential products also include food and beverages and home décor. The government is continuing to improve the competitiveness of local products and help them compete in the domestic market through deregulation, a more business-friendly environment and incentives.

The full discussion with Trade Minister Budi Santoso, hosted by Shafinaz Nachiar, was part of the CNBC Indonesia Awards 2026: Best Consumer programme, broadcast by CNBC Indonesia on Thursday, 29 October 2026.
