Video: Targeting Singapore Market, PNRE Boosts Biomethanol Production

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Pertamina NRE’s President Director, John Anis, is optimistic about the biomethanol development strategy through the utilisation of palm oil waste, namely Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME), at the Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone in North Sumatra, in collaboration with the Singapore-based cleantech company cRecTech Pte. Ltd. 

The biomethanol development project, targeted to operate by the end of 2026 or early 2027, will be strengthened from upstream to downstream, starting from the availability and logistics of raw materials, efficient processing, to securing offtakers or fixed buyers.

PNRE will focus on developing biomethanol for the power generation and maritime transport markets up to Singapore, with an initial production target of 50 tonnes, gradually increasing to 10,000 to 30,000 up to 35 million tonnes per annum (TPA) by 2035.

John Anis is also continuing to strengthen collaborations in technology development and investment in PNRE’s green energy industry, both from technology providers and efficient research centres. It is hoped that efforts to support Indonesia’s energy self-sufficiency and resilience targets will receive government support to make this sector increasingly economically valuable and competitive.
