Video: Tackling Jakarta Flooding, Illegal Riverbank Constructions Cleared

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The government continues to push ahead with efforts to mitigate the long-standing problem of floods in Indonesia, including through river rehabilitation and restoration and the construction of river embankments.

David Marpaung, head of the Ciliwung-Cisadane Basin Management of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, said that to keep the river flow capable of accommodating maximum water discharge, the river body, riverbanks, and adjacent channels must be free of settlements. Therefore, there is a drive to clear settlements and buildings from the river’s channel.

In addition, BBWS Ciliwung-Cisadane also tackles river pollution, such as pesticide liquids flowing into the Jeletreng River, a tributary of the Cisadane, in South Tangerang following a fire at PT Biotek Saranatama.

What measures is BBWS taking to maintain the Ciliwung-Cisadane flow? Watch the Focus On Infra discussion between Dina Gurning and David Marpaung of the Ciliwung-Cisadane Basin Office, Ministry of Public Works, on CNBC Indonesia (Wednesday, 25/02/2026).
