PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI), as an integrated mineral mining company in Indonesia, has confirmed its commitment to supporting the national economy through taxes, dividends, royalties and other levies.

PT Freeport Indonesia President Director Tony Wenas, speaking during the 81st anniversary celebrations of the Republic of Indonesia in Tembagapura, Central Papua, said that 2026 would be a year full of challenges for PTFI as it remains in a recovery period following a wet mudslide incident at the Grasberg Block Cave (GBC) underground mine in 2025.

Amid the production recovery process, PTFI has ensured that operations continue and that the company’s contribution to the state will persist, with a value of tens of billions of US dollars since 1973. In 2025, Freeport Indonesia contributed more than USD 4.7 billion, or Rp 75 trillion. However, during the recovery period in 2026, PTFI’s contribution is estimated at Rp 47 trillion, with a target of reaching Rp 120 trillion per year by 2028.

PTFI continues to ensure safe and sustainable production while supporting the welfare and economy of the region and local communities. For Mimika Regency and Central Papua Province, PTFI is strengthening coordination with regional and provincial governments to synergise programmes that advance the economy, social culture, infrastructure, MSMEs, health through free medical treatment programmes, and quality education, thereby improving the standard of living in Mimika Regency, whose Human Development Index has reached 77.25, higher than the national HDI.

In terms of production, PTFI is targeting full operations by 2028, enabling it to contribute more than USD 7 billion, equivalent to Rp 120 trillion, to the state. For the regions, PTFI is disbursing local investment of USD 100 million per year in the form of programmes until 2041, with a focus on health, education, economic empowerment, sports, and the socio-economic welfare of indigenous communities.
