Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Director of Coasts and Small Islands (P3K) at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), Ahmad Aris, noted that around 2,112 hectares of mangrove land had been rehabilitated during 2020–2025. Mangrove rehabilitation not only restores ecosystems but also stimulates the coastal community economy. Aris cited the success of mangrove rehabilitation on Pulau Lusi in Sidoarjo, formed from Sidoarjo mud, where rehabilitation involved community participation. Today, Pulau Lusi mangroves have grown lush and are being developed as a tourist destination, thereby stimulating the local economy through the provision of transport and accommodation as well as culinary offerings for visitors. On the other hand, the government is encouraging the use of mangrove rehabilitation to enhance the value of blue carbon potential as funding for marine conservation towards the energy transition. To this end, the government is preparing three elements: land, methodology and a licensing system.
