Video: Strengthening Energy Security: MPR Urges B50 Programme to Reduce Oil and Gas Dependency

Global geopolitical uncertainty is a major challenge for the Indonesian government’s efforts to strengthen energy security towards the target of national energy self-sufficiency, according to the Deputy Speaker of the MPR RI, Eddy Soeparno.

Global instability makes the importation of crude oil, fuel, and LPG for Indonesia increasingly challenging. Therefore, in an effort to maintain energy security, the government must undertake measures to meet domestic needs by increasing oil and gas exploration, including the Masela Block, increasing refinery capacity, and developing the energy transition to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

The MPR RI views that Indonesia’s energy transition progress is continuously developing but still requires strong commitment to accelerate transitions ranging from solar power plants (PLTS) to biodiesel development. The MPR continues to support the strengthening of regulations and legal certainty for energy transition investments as part of the effort to accelerate Indonesia’s oil, gas, and renewable energy projects, one of which is through the Renewable Energy Law (UU EBT) which is ready to be enacted.
