Video: Strengthening Connectivity, Komdigi Builds Networks and Auctions Frequencies
Global economic and geopolitical turmoil has been cited by Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, as one of the sentiments affecting the development of the digital economy in the Southeast Asian region, including Indonesia. Facing this condition, the government, through Komdigi, continues to push efforts to drive the digital economy sector as a pillar of national economic growth. The e-commerce sector is recorded as being able to achieve market size growth of up to USD 104 billion by 2026, with the potential to grow to USD 366 billion by 2030. Komdigi has the tagline for Indonesia’s digital transformation, namely ‘Connected, Growing, and Protected’ or T3, as the direction for national digital development and vision for 2025-2029, so that digital technology can provide real benefits for all Indonesian people. To realise the ‘Connected’ vision, Komdigi is strengthening connectivity, expanding fibre optic networks, reinforcing satellite capabilities, and conducting a 2.6 GHz frequency auction so that service quality and internet speed can improve, thereby stimulating the digital economy to remote areas. On the other hand, Komdigi is encouraging the strengthening of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) adoption, which can be utilised by the public to use advanced technology through regulatory reinforcement via the National AI Roadmap. This step is necessary so that AI can be used to support economic activities that remain safe and accountable.
