Video: Serving 280 Million People, Indonesia Needs More Hospitals and Specialist Doctors

Indonesia still requires increased healthcare and hospital services nationwide to meet the needs of 280 million citizens.

Iing Ichsan Hanafi, chairman of the Association of Indonesian Private Hospitals (ARSSI), noted that Indonesia currently has only 3,200 hospital units with uneven distribution, with the majority located on Java island.

Additionally, with national health insurance coverage through the National Health Insurance Scheme (JKN) reaching 95% penetration and the healthcare industry experiencing continuous growth, efforts to improve and expand hospital capacity are essential. Beyond this, the country needs additional medical personnel, particularly specialist doctors, as well as more equitable distribution of medical technology and treatment facilities through the development of competency-based hospitals.
