Video: Seed Entrepreneurs Need Incentives to Produce Superior Seeds Like India and the US

The Chairman of the Indonesian Seed and Breeding Society (MPPI), Herman Khaeron, has highlighted a number of challenges faced by certified superior seed producers in meeting the needs of farmers across Indonesia. Issues concerning technology, storage systems, and certification are significant hurdles, prompting a call for the government to pay special attention, including establishing a seed bank with greater capacity to achieve seed self-sufficiency. Furthermore, incentives are needed for seed entrepreneurs to develop certified superior seeds domestically, thereby enhancing innovation in superior seed varieties within the country. Looking at the examples of India and the United States, Indonesia should be able to drive improvements in superior seed production through various incentives and regulatory support from the government.
