Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Public Works, is accelerating the construction of the Ciliwung River embankment system as an effort to strengthen flood control in the Greater Jakarta area, particularly in areas with a high risk of flooding.

The Head of the Ciliwung-Cisadane River Basin (BBWS) of the Ministry of Public Works, David Marpaung, said that of the 33.69 km of embankment to be built, 17.14 km has been completed, leaving 16 km remaining.

The embankment work must be completed because when the water debit increases and exceeds the river’s capacity, the threat of flooding increases. In addition, the Ciliwung-Cisadane BBWS is also taking a number of mitigation steps through the operation of the Ciliwung diversion canal and other infrastructure to reduce the duration of flooding.
