Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo launched the book ‘Answering the Mandate: Infrastructure Development of the Ministry of Public Works, Notes from 500 Days of Building the Nation for the People’. This book is a record and documentation of the infrastructure sector work by the Public Works Minister in translating President Prabowo’s directives to build efficient and effective infrastructure that impacts development and the economy. This work is the result of joint efforts by Ministry of Public Works personnel and collaboration with related ministries and agencies in carrying out the infrastructure development mandate. One form of infrastructure support is aimed at food self-sufficiency through the provision of water for rice fields and plantations via reservoirs and irrigation, thereby helping farmers increase agricultural production, including enabling harvests two to three times per year. In terms of roads and bridges as part of strengthening connectivity, this is also a flagship programme of the Ministry of Public Works in cooperation with central and regional governments. This includes village roads and suspension bridges, particularly in the eastern region of Indonesia. Specifically for eastern Indonesia, including Papua, the construction of roads, bridges, and water provision is being accelerated despite facing challenges related to land issues. Furthermore, the Public Works Minister is promoting a programme requiring the use of at least 30 per cent processed Buton asphalt, which is native to Indonesia, as road construction material to reduce asphalt imports.
