Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — State-owned mining company PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) recorded a 215% increase in net profit to Rp2.64 trillion throughout the first half of 2026, in line with a 7.7% year-on-year rise in revenue to Rp22.03 trillion.

President Director of PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), Bambang Ismawan, said the positive performance would not have been achieved without the contribution of all PTBA employees, supported by the company’s efficiency strategy, which successfully controlled the coal stripping ratio and managed overburden.

On the other hand, the coal industry is currently facing a surge in production costs due to rising energy costs, including fuel prices. However, global geopolitical turmoil has driven increased coal demand, so the coal industry’s performance is expected to remain positive.

PTBA is also preparing a strategy to maintain its coal business performance by strengthening planning for the mining of its 40-hectare IUP to keep operations efficient. In addition, rail-based logistics management continues to be reinforced as a solution to transport challenges, supported by efforts to keep sales performance positive.

What is PTBA’s strategy for sustaining its coal business and achieving its production target of 48 million tonnes in 2026? Watch Mercy Widjaja’s full interview with the President Director of PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), Bambang Ismawan, on Closing Bell, CNBC Indonesia (Friday, 04/09/2026).
