Video: PNRE's Strategy to Attract Investment and Biomethanol Technology That Generates Profits
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Pertamina NRE’s CEO, John Anis, is optimistic about the strategy for developing biomethanol through the utilisation of palm oil mill effluent (POME) waste at the Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone in North Sumatra, in collaboration with the Singapore-based cleantech company cRecTech Pte. Ltd. The biomethanol development project, targeted to operate by the end of 2026 or early 2027, will be strengthened from upstream to downstream, starting from the availability and logistics of raw materials, efficient processing, to off-takers or fixed buyers. PNRE will focus on developing biomethanol for the power generation and maritime transport markets up to Singapore, with an initial production target of 50 tonnes, gradually increasing to 10,000 to 30,000 tonnes, and up to 35 million tonnes per annum by 2035. John Anis is also continuing to strengthen collaborations in technology development and investment in PNRE’s green energy industry, both from technology providers and efficient research centres. It is hoped that these efforts to support Indonesia’s energy self-sufficiency and resilience targets will receive government support to make this sector increasingly economically valuable and competitive.
