In the implementation of B50 biodiesel, Deputy Chairman of Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sugeng Suparwoto, emphasised the importance of trials concerning technical aspects of B50 compatibility with vehicle engines. This is necessary so that complaints about vehicle or ship filter damage due to biodiesel, which remains an issue, can be promptly resolved. Specifically for use in ships operating in cold waters, biodiesel is often complained about for easily clumping, thus requiring improvements in the mixing process. On the other hand, the use of CPO for B50 must be ensured not to disrupt the palm oil supply for the food sector. Thus, the utilisation of B50 not only suppresses fuel imports but can also save foreign exchange of USD 12 billion, as well as reduce carbon emissions and accelerate Indonesia’s energy transition.
