Video of Sekolah Rakyat Student Played at 80th Bhayangkara Day Commemoration

A video telling the story of M. Fikri Ibrahim, a six-year-old student at the Integrated Sekolah Rakyat (SRT) 4 Sumedang, was screened during the 80th Bhayangkara Day commemoration at the Nagara Janottama Field, Brimob Korbrimob Polri, in Cikeas, Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday, 1 July 2026. The event was themed ‘80 Years of Service, Police for the People’. Fikri’s story touched many hearts; unlike other children his age who spend their time playing, he was forced to scavenge for used bottles to sell in order to survive. A video of him searching for items on the streets had previously gone viral. Since enrolling in Sekolah Rakyat, Fikri’s life has changed dramatically—he now wears a clean uniform instead of shabby, dirty clothes, enjoys regular and nutritious meals, and benefits from a much better environment through the guidance of teachers and education staff. He is one of many children who have felt the benefits of the Sekolah Rakyat programme, an initiative of President Prabowo Subianto, serving as tangible proof that many children from poor families need access to education, and that education can be a pathway to breaking the intergenerational cycle of poverty. President Prabowo Subianto, who attended the event, stated that poverty remains a significant challenge within Indonesian society. ‘Our people are still suffering from poverty, and this poverty is a direct result of corruption, smuggling, and illegal economic activities,’ he said, accompanied by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. The President stressed that the law must be enforced against such deviations without discrimination, and that the law must be respected and valued as a protector of society. ‘There must be no abuse of authority, and no one is above the law. I emphasise once again, the weakest people must receive protection, and people seeking truth and justice must be served,’ he asserted. Meanwhile, Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf, known as Gus Ipul, expressed gratitude for the dedication of the police force, who, alongside the military, have provided significant assistance on the ground, particularly in strengthening the discipline of Sekolah Rakyat students. The event was also attended by the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, the 10th Vice President, Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, Speaker of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani, Speaker of the Regional Representative Council Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Sunarto, other high-ranking state institution leaders, members of the Red and White Cabinet, and related stakeholders.
