A video of a car driver and a motorcyclist involved in a dispute on the streets of East Jakarta has gone viral on social media. The dispute was triggered by an accident in which the motorcyclist was speeding on a bus lane and collided with a car that was making a U-turn.

The incident occurred on Jalan Otto Iskandardinata (Otista), Jatinegara, East Jakarta, on Tuesday (June 2nd). The video shows the car involved in the accident with a broken windshield and a damaged right-side mirror.

The motorcyclist allegedly refused to take responsibility for the damage to the car caused by the accident. Police have launched an investigation into the accident.

“In response to reports from the public, the Traffic Unit of the East Jakarta Metro Police quickly launched a thorough investigation into the traffic accident that occurred on Jalan Otista Raya, Jatinegara, East Jakarta,” said the East Jakarta Metro Police via its Instagram account @polresmetrojaktim, Thursday (June 4th, 2026).

Officers from the Traffic Unit of the East Jakarta Metro Police visited the scene of the accident to investigate. At the same time, police also contacted the victim, or the car driver, to obtain information about the accident.

“This step is taken to ensure that the facts of the incident are objectively and transparently established, as well as to provide legal certainty for all parties involved,” it said.

Police appealed to the public to immediately report any emergencies, disturbances to public order, or traffic accidents through the Polri 110 call center, which is accessible 24 hours a day free of charge.

Meanwhile, the car driver has visited the East Jakarta Metro Police to provide a statement. He appreciated the police’s proactive investigation of the case, even though no official report had been filed.

“Thank you to the Traffic Unit and the East Jakarta Police for their quick action. I was contacted via Instagram last night, and today I came to provide clarification,” said the car owner, Perdana.

He said that his car is currently being repaired. He hopes that there will be no more similar accidents.

“As for my vehicle, I consider it a risk I took. The vehicle is currently at the repair shop and is safe. And for everything, I hope that accidents like this will not happen again to me or others,” he said.
