Video of Car Driving Against Traffic on Gunung Sahari Goes Viral, Pursued by Crowd, Rear Window Smashed with Helmet

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A video recording a car driving against traffic and being pursued by citizens has gone viral on the Instagram social media platform on Wednesday (25/2/2026).

As reported by the Instagram account, @lintasjakartaupdate, a black car is seen speeding against the flow of traffic. The car continued to drive towards the traffic congestion while being pursued by citizens.

The rear window of the car appears to be broken, allegedly after being hit by a helmet thrown by a number of citizens.

“It happened at 17:15 WIB, when traffic police officers were conducting traffic control on Jalan Gunung Sahari,” said Reynold to reporters at the Metro Tanah Abang Police Station on Wednesday night.

“Then, a black Toyota Calya car was seen driving recklessly. A pursuit was conducted, and the car made a U-turn from Gunung Sahari towards Senen,” he explained.

At that time, angry citizens joined in the pursuit of the car.

According to Reynold, the driver of the Toyota Calya has now been secured. The car contained a male driver and one female passenger.

Reynold also confirmed that the rear window of the Toyota Calya was broken due to being hit by a helmet thrown by the citizens who were pursuing the car.

“The car’s rear window was indeed broken,” he said.
