Video of BI Governor Tasked by Finance Minister to Open Government Aid: Hoax!

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - A viral video circulates claiming that the Governor of Bank Indonesia, Perry Warjiyo, says he is a staff member to the Finance Minister. In the video, Perry claims he has been tasked by the Finance Minister to open registration for government aid. In the same video, Perry allegedly invites the public to register immediately to speed up the disbursement of aid. “As the Finance Minister’s staff directly assigned to announce the registration to receive direct aid from the Finance Minister on how to register, please contact me directly,” the video quotes.

The Ministry of Finance has stressed that the circulating video, in which BI Governor Perry Warjiyo asserts he is a staff member assigned by the Finance Minister to announce the registration to receive direct aid from the Finance Minister Purbaya, is a deepfake hoax. The Ministry of Finance asks the public to be vigilant against videos and false news impersonating the Finance Minister Purbaya. The Ministry of Finance urges that if you encounter suspicious content impersonating the Finance Minister or the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, the public can report it via the Kemenkeu PRIME contact centre at number 134 or WhatsApp 0813-1000-4134 on Monday–Friday from 08:00 to 16:00 WIB.
