Minister of Transmigration M. Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara has emphasised the importance of driving the economy in transmigration areas as a source of regional economic growth and a means of improving the welfare of transmigrant communities. Several transmigration areas possess economic potential ranging from agriculture and tourism to mining and the oil and gas sector. Therefore, through a national transmigration transformation, the government is not merely relocating people but also addressing land issues, developing supporting infrastructure, and deploying thousands of skilled human resources to bolster the local economy. In tackling budget efficiency challenges, the Ministry of Transmigration is collaborating with relevant ministries and agencies to develop transmigration areas in the agriculture, oil and gas, mining, and tourism sectors. Furthermore, the ministry is inviting investors to explore prospective economic zones for development, such as Raja Ampat in West Papua and Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara. The Minister also affirmed that the development of transmigration areas must contribute to Indonesia’s economic growth target of 8%, by encouraging these areas to become industrial and downstream processing hubs that not only enhance community welfare but also boost the national economy.
