Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Chairman of the Indonesian Nickel Industry Forum (FINI), Arif Perdana Kusumah, stated that the cut in nickel ore production in the 2026 Work Plan and Budget (RKAB) to around 260 million tonnes presents a challenge for downstream industries such as smelters in meeting their raw material supplies.

It is estimated that the nickel ore needs in the downstream/smelter sector will reach 340-350 million tonnes in 2026, so with production limited to 260 million tonnes, smelters will have to find ways to fulfil their raw material requirements. This situation will undoubtedly restrain and affect the direction of long-term nickel downstream investments in Indonesia.
